african grey behaviour

i have a 10 week old african grey baby. he hooks his beak in the bottom of the cage and scuffs ( scratches ) the bottom of the cage for a while. he wrecks the paper in the bottom of the cage and kicks everything that is loose over. i have never experienced this before is it normal?? thanks Nicoll

Hi Nicoll,

This is something almost all baby greys do. It is an instinctive behavior, although I'm not sure if it has been determined what purpose it serves in the wild. He will outgrow it soon, so it's best to let him do this & just ignore the behavior.
