Anger Management

Doodles adjusts well when I leave for a weekend. Of course, I don't leave him home alone. He's home w/ my mom and sister. However, he does not let them touch him. As soon as they go near him to touch him, he puffs up and charges at them, ready to bite. Is there something that can be done about that? He will talk to my mom all the time though, which is strange. I mean, he talks to her and interacts with her, but just won't let anyone else but myself and my boyfriend touch him, is that normal? Additionally, the last time I went on a business trip for 2 weeks, I left Doodles with my boyfriend. Doodles gets along with my boyfriend. He's quite cuddley as well. When I returned from the trip, he was extremely nippy and everytime I reached to tell him 'let's go', he would bite me instead of hopping on my hand, like he normally does. Is that because he's mad at me or something? I'm planning on going on another business trip, this time for a month. I will be leaving Doodles with my boyfriend, but am scared he might get 'mad' at me all over again. Is there anything that can be done about this?

Doodles is definately bonded to you. but he seems to fancy your boy friend as well. This is normal behavior for many pet birds. Many times a pet bird will give you a "payback" for leaving him alone and be all grumpy and nippy for a few days. Birds select who they want to handle them and when.. it is in their ballpark. If you leave him again, chances are he will revert back to that behavior again.
