lovebird legs
We have an adopted lovebird with no previous history. When he is standing on a flat surface his legs seem to be spread out far apart and when he walks he hops. I had a previous female lovebird and she walked like a big parrot. I don't know much about love birds as these are the only two I have had. Could this be a condition of splayed legs? He is healthy and happy. He just seems to look like his legs spread more than normal.Lafeber Reply

Dear Kathy
This could be the result of having Splayed Leg syndrome as a baby. This usually is life long, They can learn to cope and if hopping is what he has to do to move from point A to point B.. so be it. Diet is very very important and as long as he is happy and active he probably will be ok. (Although, you did not say how old he/she was?) Splayed Leg Babies usual die after hatching about 4-5 weeks of age. Some do make it, just depending on the severity of the leg problem.
